A bodhran is a frame drum played with both hands or using tools such as beater sticks or cipins to produce strong and clear tones that add depth and dimension to music.

Taping Around the Edges

Paraic was inspired by drummers who use E-rings to dampen their drums, and discovered that taping the outer edges of his bodhran skin produced a richer sound and increased harmonic range of the instrument.

Electrical tape is ideal as it conforms to skin shape and reduces chances of bubbles or changes to shape resulting from atmospheric conditions or tuning. To maximize results, mask off one side leaving at least half an inch overhang before moving across this side.
