Bodhran For Sale
The bodhran is one of the most frequently played drums in Irish traditional music and offers incredible flexibility with regards to its many playing styles and techniques.
Some non-musicians may look down upon bodhran players; to them, it appears to be an easy gateway into the “real” musicians’ club. However, there are a lot of talented bodhran players out there!
Frame
Bodhrans are constructed using various materials – typically wood with cross bars – and traditionally struck using either a stick known as a tipper, beater, cipin or hand as well as occasionally with an attached jingle attached to their frame.
The Bodhran is an iconic Celtic drum. First used as a husk sifter, Gaelic peasants eventually replaced its wire mesh head with stretched goat skin to form this instrument. Over time, playing technique developed and advanced further. Vivid examples include Boys of the Lough’s Robin Morton or The Chieftains’ Peadar Mercier have further refined this instrument.
Modern professional bodhrans often incorporate mechanical tuning systems similar to those found on drum kits, enabling skin tightening or loosening with screws. Many also have insulated edges which reduce unwanted resonances thereby helping keep its pitch constant. Bodhrans play an essential part of Irish folk music as an accompaniment or focal point when played solo.
Skin
At our shop we stock top-grade goat skins for bodhran players worldwide – such as World and All Ireland Bodhran Champion Connor Lyons. Bodhrn drums are traditional Irish instruments capable of creating complex rhythms without needing to read music sheets – and are increasingly popular choices among our customers not just because of their amazing sound but also due to portability: taking it with you on travels makes joining in with music effortless!
Keep your bodhran in its case or drum bag to protect it from direct sunlight and heaters; excessive heat could lead to its skin tightening up and detaching from its pins, potentially rendering the instrument unplayable.
Beater
The bodhran is the beating heart of any traditional music session, whether at your local pub or home. Able to create stunningly complex rhythms, its beat can elevate any tune and turn any simple folk song into something truly amazing.
Beaters for your bodhran will vary depending on your playing style and are essential in creating optimal comfort, so finding one that meets all of your needs perfectly is of utmost importance. Luckily, many manufacturers provide tippers available for purchase that may fit just perfectly for you.
Hedwitschak Bodhrans are world-renowned professional-quality drums used by some of the greatest professional players worldwide and boast a stunning black cherry veneer over premium goat skin for exceptional sound and performance. Additionally, its multipoint tuning system makes tuning simple while its CoreLine series showcases elegance through simple design that stands the test of time.
Accessories
No matter your skill level or experience level, we have all of the essential accessories you’ll need to play one of Ireland’s beloved folk instruments – such as bodhran cases, beaters and spare tippers.
A bodhrn (pronounced bo-dronn) is a circular frame drum equipped with a goatskin head on one side and played by striking its skin with a wooden stick known as a beater (sometimes cipin) called a beater tipper or tipper (or beater or beater in Irish music). Used to accent rhythms and notes during Irish musical composition.
Keep your bodhran in good condition is of paramount importance, and experts suggest keeping it in its case and away from sources of heat such as your car, as this could cause it to expand and damage its skin. In addition, periodically rub some clear water onto its back skin using either a soft cloth or your hand for additional variations in sound variations and to restore hydration levels – both techniques should increase sound variations over time.
