Waltons Bodhran Review
Waltons offers an assortment of bodhrans suitable for beginners through professional musicians, each one equipped with its own carrying bag and hardwood beater and available in traditional Irish designs.
A bodhran is a frame drum covered with goatskin that can be tuned to produce different tones. Players often prefer Lambeg skin for its rich, warm sound; Vellum skin also delivers quality results.
Waltons Bodhrans
Bodhrans are designed with premium musical tone and build quality in mind, offering years of design expertise with sturdy laminated shells; handpicked goatskin heads; and reliable tuning mechanisms allowing fine-tuning on demand. These bodhrans make traveling professionals and younger players sound amazing when tuned on demand! These instruments are perfect for traveling professionals as well as younger players.
Modern bodhrans often feature crossbars, making them useful features for players who like to brace their non-tipper hand against it for greater sound control and to muffle the head when required. Furthermore, this style of bodhran may help improve posture and fatigue as it provides a comfortable position to rest the arm in.
An non-tunable shallow rim bodhran is ideal for novice musicians and children starting out. They will learn basic playing techniques before progressing on to more advanced ones and larger-bodied drums. Plus, these models may be more affordable than their traditional tunable counterparts while including an inbuilt hardwood beater making them an excellent option for students and young musicians just starting out!

These instruments feature traditional wooden shells covered with goat skin heads for optimal sound production as well as hardwood beaters – offering affordable solutions for musicians of any level.
Many bodhrans in this range feature deep rims to produce its iconic boomy bass sound; however, deeper rims may make playing difficult due to limited arm room for some individuals. To address this, there are also shallow-rimmed models in this classic range which may be better suited to shorter arms.
Waltons Pro Deluxe Bodhrans

Shallow-rim non-tunable bodhrans are great choices for young musicians or those with shorter arms, providing greater range and comfort while making playing easier. Though less noise-making than their deep rim counterparts, this style still provides great depth of tone.
No matter if it is Lambeg goatskin or Vellum goatskin, each head is hand-selected for quality, responsiveness, and sustain. Many bodhran heads feature weighted edges to add to their sound; usually made of tape but sometimes using skin for this effect as well.
Waltons 8′′ Bodhrans
Waltons 8” Bodhrans make great entry-level instruments, featuring visually creative designs. Small in size but packed with punch, they provide beautiful acoustic sounds and come complete with hardwood beaters in various traditional Irish designs.
The bodhran is composed of a skin stretched over a wooden frame to create the ‘drum’ sound, or skin, called Vellum or Lambeg. Both types offer their own distinct tonal properties: Vellum gives a warmer, soft tone while Lambeg is known to offer greater bass response with rich low end response.
McNeela Instruments has designed an innovative bodhran with a cut-out on the rim to allow players, particularly young and petite ones, to easily play it for maximum sound production and bassiness. McNeela Instruments have come up with this solution by creating a deep rimmed drum which has an easier playing experience and reduces any issues of difficulty playing deep rimmed instruments. This innovative solution allows the hand to move more freely within the drum to create a better playing experience overall.
