Bodhran Tippers

bodhran tippers

Bodhran tippers are sticks specifically designed to play the bodhran. Their shape and size vary greatly, each offering its own sound and feel. While wood type has only minimal effects on sound production, it does impact how comfortable a stick feels in your hand.

Hard Tip

Bodhran beaters (or tippers) are essential components of modern bodhran playing styles, providing different sounds with each tipper style available. Bodhran beaters come in all sorts of shapes and sizes to help produce these distinctive tunes.

Hard tip beaters produce a solid sound with minimal overtones or vibration. Furthermore, these beaters hold chalk better than soft tips and require replacement less often due to mushrooming.

Soft tip beaters produce a pleasant sound and percussive click when striking the bodhran, and are widely preferred by players of all playing styles.

Weighted beaters come equipped with small brass or steel weights attached to their tip, enabling them to swing smoothly in your hand while relieving stress from wrist ligaments. Unfortunately, some players find them too heavy and place unnecessary pressure on their stick hand.

Soft Tip

Though bodhran can be played by hand, modern Irish playing styles heavily favor using a beater stick (commonly referred to as a tipper or cipin). This has resulted in an explosion of tippers on the market today.

While shape and weight do have some bearing on how a bodhran beater sounds, most of its effect depends on how comfortable it feels in a player’s hand. That is why it is wise to try different types of beaters until one meets your exact specifications.

Brush tippers provide an enjoyable yet gentle sound, made from bar ash with various lengths available and featuring two ridge grip handles for easier handling.

Hot Rod

Nothing compares to the culture surrounding hot rodding. People dedicated to this form of motorsport have created some truly iconic vehicles throughout its history.

Hot rods are automobiles modified for speed and power, typically modified versions of older cars customized by their owners to increase speed and power. Their unique look attracts teenagers looking to express their independence through rebellion.

Our bodhran beaters are not your average hot rods – they’re designed to offer strong, clear attacks and have two rubber rings which can be adjusted for different feels – ideal for those who appreciate both sound and feel of tippers or brushes!

Two Ridge Grip

Two ridge grip tippers make an excellent choice for players looking for lighter beaters. These tippers feature large barbell-style tips on both ends with slightly curved ridges for comfort and lightness of beater use.

A Bodhran Tipper, also referred to as a Beater or Bone, is used to produce lively rhythmic patterns on a Bodhran. There are many different types of Bodhran Beaters with each one having a unique sound as well as grip and comfort considerations unique to themselves – try out a variety of Bodhran Beaters until you find one that best meets your needs; Roosebeck offers an impressive variety for just this purpose!
