Tipper Drums

tunable bodhran

A bodhran can be played by placing one hand inside its skin to control tension, and striking its head either directly or with an object made of wood known as a beater/cipin. Tippers come in various sizes.

Bodhran skins are extremely responsive to changes in humidity. If the drum is exposed to too little airflow, its tone becomes high and tinny; when exposed to too much dampness, its sound becomes loose and crackled.
