Bodhran Sale – The Heartbeat of Every Traditional Music Session
Bodhrans are at the core of any traditional music session. Played using a short stick called a tipper, beater, or cipin.
Make sure the skin of your bodhr’n is undamaged, free from holes, rips or gouges and has no significant differences that could alter its sound significantly. Even small imperfections could have an immense effect on its sound production.
For optimal sound, rub the back of your skin with lanolin or neetsfoot oil (but beware not to overdo it!). This should create a better sound.
Bodhr’n
Irish Bodhr’n (pronounced Boor-rn) is an integral component of any traditional music session, whether held at a pub or your living room. Capable of creating surprising rhythmic complexity, its use has dated back centuries; though no specific proof can be provided as to when its first appearance was. Some believe it to have originated through trade routes from Spain where tambourines had already been introduced through trade routes to Ireland.
The Bodhr’n is a single-headed drum made of goatskin stretched over a circular wooden frame. Initially used as part of La an Dreoilin, now it has taken centre stage at concerts and dance halls worldwide since the 1960s – even featuring internal tunables to improve tone even further!
Internal tunable
No matter if it be played at home, in a pub or on stage – an excellent bodhr’n is an integral component of any musical session, elevating music and stimulating feet tapping with every beat it makes. Our customers find their passion here; we stock an extensive collection of these incredible instruments and all necessary accessories to ensure an enjoyable session experience!
An otherwise non-tunable bodhran can be made tunable simply by wetting its skin with water; this will slacken its tightened fabric and allow you to tune it more accurately. When tuning, be sure to go criss-cross, not around in circles. Also try not storing it too close to direct sunlight as that will harm its health and sound quality over time.
External tunable
The Irish drum, or Bodhr’n, is at the core of every traditional music session. Played with hands criss-crossing over its open end using sticks, cord, or wire; its simple and beautiful design make it great for beginners but more advanced players can create complex rhythms with it. At Red Cow Music we carry an impressive collection of these beautiful instruments as well as all necessary accessories.
Waltons Bodhrans are widely recognized for their quality. Each drum features an external tunable system that is both smooth and precise, making tuning simple and comfortable for you when playing. Multipoint tuning also helps make playing more comfortable – just store it somewhere cool away from heat sources or direct sunlight as this may cause skin tightening to occur over time.
Wooden frame
Timber framing is an economical and long-lasting construction method using wood to construct floors, roofs, exterior walls and bearing walls. Used frequently in both residential and light commercial settings as well as being an excellent solution for home additions or renovations projects, timber frames offer cost savings without compromising durability.
The Bodhran is an iconic Irish drum made of wooden frame covered by animal skin stretched over it. As its heartbeat in Irish folk music sessions, this drum can be played by anyone without having to read music beforehand. A must-have in any musician’s repertoire.
Waltons offers a selection of bodhrans to meet the needs of both novice and advanced players alike. Choose from tunable and standalone drums as well as packs with everything necessary to learn this magical instrument.
Goatskin
Goatskin leather has long been used in fashion accessories, from gloves and jackets to wallets and handbags. Its softness, flexibility, natural luster, and unique texture provide comfortable fits while its aesthetic value make for lasting products. To maintain their best appearance and keep them looking their best for years, wipe regularly with a damp cloth and use leather conditioner. Furthermore, avoid prolonged sunlight exposure; store in cool dry environment with breathable cover.
Goat hide is more flexible and has higher tensile strength compared to cowhide, while being water resistant; making it suitable for leather goods and shoes. Furthermore, goatskin contains higher levels of lanolin than other forms of leather, making it more comfortable and wearable.
