McNeela Bodhrans
McNeela 14″ and 16″ non-tunable bodhrans provide beginners with an accessible instrument with great traditional sound that is easily tuned with a tuning system.
Paraic’s bodhrans feature an easy 8 point hand-tuning system for quick responses to changing playing conditions and to ensure your drum remains in tune throughout your performance.
Hand-Cured Goatskin
Our bodhran goatskins are ethically and sustainably sourced as by-products from healthy animals and carefully selected and examined for quality. Once purchased, they undergo natural hand curing in lime to achieve a bass tone, before being pickled to close up pores before being stretched and sun dried to give that sought-after bleached look desired by players of the bodhran.
When completed, the bodhran is finished off with either a leather or vinyl band that conceals staples or nails used to fasten its skin to its rim, giving a neater more finished appearance and helping conceal any rough edges created during assembly that might otherwise become visible during playing. Furthermore, this helps conceal ragged edges caused by this process and protects them from being exposed during performance.
8 Point Hand-Tuning System
Following the revival of Irish traditional music in the 1970s, bodhrans became internationally acclaimed instruments. A small circular frame drum covered with goatskin is played using a beater or tipper made out of wood; playing styles and variations can also be enhanced using various accessories that further enhance this playing experience.
This premium bodhran features our new hand-tuning system for precise tuning by hand, enabling players to quickly adjust skin tension and respond to atmospheric conditions for the perfect sound while playing! Paraic’s tape rim treatment further lowers tone levels while expanding harmonic range for an impressive bass sound, complete with free gig bag, weighted beater, Allen key and money back guarantee coverage – guaranteed! Finished in stunning deep claret French polish finish it will surely become the center of conversation among your peers!
