The Bodhran is an integral component of Irish music. Featuring a round frame drum containing one animal skin stretched over it, this instrument can create complex rhythmic patterns with skillful playing.
Finding quality bodhrans to purchase can often be challenging, yet some excellent options do exist.

Bodojo
North American Bodhran culture differs significantly from Europe and Ireland; its presence can be felt most prominently in Newfoundland and eastern Canada where Irish, Scots and French music thrives. Drummers in these areas typically use large bodied drums with non taped skins.
The Bodhran is a frame drum with goat (or other animals such as deer, kangaroo or dog) skin stretched over a wooden frame and played by striking its head with an adjustable lathed piece of wood called a beater or tipper.
On a tight budget, REMO offers an economical non-tunable drum featuring synthetic heads. Waltons used to produce similar models but stopped around 10 years ago. If you prefer tuning capabilities instead of synthetic heads, there are a few mid-East manufacturers who make tunable models; be wary though!
